Last Thursday while Ryan's sister was over Henry projectile vomited across the entire couch- I would say a good couple feet. We didn't really think anything of it and he had done it a few times prior in isolated incidents. Well he continued to violently throw up the rest of his feedings and after talking to our pediatrician we decided to take Henry to the hospital on Friday evening.
We got to the hospital and described what was going on and they seemed to think it was pyloric stenonsis- which is what we thought it was too after many google searches. We were admitted to Children's and we were told there would be a number of tests on Saturday and most likely surgery....so that would mean Henry would need an IV. After 2 failed attempts in each hand, the third nurse finally got it going in his foot. It was by far the hardest thing I have ever had to watch...my little boy screaming bloody murder as he is getting poked with needles :(
We got settled into our room and waiting for the next morning to come...and since he was most likely having surgery that meant no food. Which for a big boy who typically eats a lot was very hard. He actually did much better that we thought he would...I like he knew what was going on and knew he couldn't have any food.
Morning came and we took Henry down to do the ultra sound...it took maybe 5 minutes and then the radiologist came back within minutes to say that Henry did indeed have pyloric stenosis. We then talked with the surgeon who scheduled the surgery for later in the afternoon. He said it was a very easy fix and recovery would be just as easy.
I was doing very well and collected until we had to bring Henry down for his surgery...I lost it as soon as they started talking about the procedure and what they would be doing to my little baby. Basically they just go in through the belly button and cut the pyloric muscle so that the food can go from his stomach to intestines. I handed my baby over and cried the whole way to the waiting room.
They told us the surgery would last 30 minutes but to our suprise it was over in 15 and we were able to go see our little boy. He was able to start eating again about 1 hour later and he kept his first 3 feedings down but then as we increased the amount his little tummy wasn't ok with it and he starting violently throwing up again. He did that for about 3-4 feedings and then started to tolerate them again. Luckily we were able to go home the day after the surgery and he has been wonderful ever since. Now you would never know he had anything wrong with him.
We have never been so scared in our entire lives and we are very grateful to have our healthy little boy back!
