We have been toying with the idea of making our own baby food for awhile now & finally this weekend we decided to give it a try. We were sick of buying babyfood- & figured it was much cheaper & healthier to make our own. We bought 3 sweet potatoes & 2 squash for about $6 total & I would guess we have about 3ish weeks of food ready to eat now!
Here is how it went...[it was SUPER easy] Oh & the process is pretty much identical for both veggies.
First, I peeled and chopped the sweet potatoes.
Then I boiled them until they were really soft....
Then in semi-small portions, I blended them in our blender [we are heading out to buy a food processor this week because our blender is cheap & pretty much sucks].
Then, dished them out into ice cube trays & threw them in the freezer.
After a few hours, I popped them out of the trays and put them into labeled freezer baggies.
Just to give you an idea...this is how much squash we have after using 2 average size squash- & this is a pretty big tupperware container...

I can't wait to hear how he does with this, please keep us updated! My babe isn't even here yet but after walking through the baby food/formula aisle at the grocery store I think this sounds like an amazing idea!
I make my own baby food too! I did it all in one weekend, and froze it just like you did. It's easy, healthy (we use organic produce) and much cheaper then buying premade baby food! Keep us updated on how he likes it!
oooh, how did the little guy like it? we just intro'd solids to ds yesterday (avocado) and he was iffy.
Just a little update: Henry loves both the squash and sweet potatoes. I also made up some bananas last night and those seem to be a hit too :)
Thanks for the link, very helpful! I am excited to try it out when Callaway is ready!
