It's a tug-o-war.

For the most part, I would say that I enjoy being a working mom. Maybe not a 40 hour a week- working mom, but I do enjoy getting out of the house every day.

Me & the boys have a pretty set schedule during the week- these are our summer hours since I work 7:30-5 M-TH & 7:30-11:30 F. It's all bumped up by 30 minutes during the regular school year when I work 8-4:30.

6:00am: I wake up & hurry to get ready- run downstairs to pick out their clothes if I haven't the night before.
6:25: I wake Holden up & bring him downstairs- start Mickey Mouse.
6:30: I wake Henry up & bring him downstairs.
6:35-6:40: Change diapers and get them dressed as they are staring at that damn mouse on TV.
6:40: We all share a small container of "ogurt" while sitting in a triangle on the floor [one of my favorite times of the day!].
6:45-6:50: Load the kids into the car & head to daycare.
7:00-7:10: Drop off at day care & steal about 20 kisses from each before I leave.7:30-5:00: Work, work, work.
5:25: Pick the babes up at day care.
5:40: Arrive home & start dinner.
6:00: Eat dinner.
6:20-7:00: Play time in the living room or bath time if a bath night.
7:00: Brush teeth & bring the boys up to bed.
7:15: Relax and get ready for the next day.
9:00: I am most likely sleeping.

Rinse & Repeat every.single.day.

It can be exhausting but totally doable & it has become our normal and for the most part, I'm ok with it. That is until one of them gets sick.

This is where the tug-o-war comes in & when it SUCKS to be a working mom- especially one with a husband who has a much more demanding job than her & is often out of town when the kids get sick.

I think most moms' natural response would be to call in sick & spend the day with their sick babe- rocking & slowly taking the sick away. I know this is my gut response anytime my boys are sick and usually what I do.

But then there is work- where you have responsibily & people depending on you to make sure your work is done & you have deadlines that don't just magically go away because your kid is sick.

It SUCKS to more or less choose between your kids and your job. Which is more important on that given day. It's hard and it honestly makes me feel like a crap mom when I know I have to go to work when I should be home rocking my baby, taking their hurt away.

I mean who would pick to spend their day like this...

Really makes me wish medical insurance was free. Or that my job didn't have such freaking fantastic benefits.

So glad to see I'm not the only one that grapples with this. I was tweeting about it right before we went on vacation. Leave it to J to get so sick that he needed to be out of school from Tuesday to Friday before we went on vacation the following week.
